The image of the priest or pope has a clear meaning of faith, but also of spiritual dogma. He offers answers to meaningful questions, and guidance in times of doubt. When you find yourself suffering, it may be necessary to seek out the assistance of someone who may be able to direct your course. A little philosophical perspective can help you see what path you need to take when you can not make that decision for yourself. Be aware that the Hierophant represents rules and status quo as well, so expect only socially acceptable assistance.
The Hanged Man represents the need to have patience with your life, and accept things for what they are. But unlike the quiet of the Hermit, the Hanged Man requires that you let yourself become open and vulnerable at the same time. Sacrifice is needed in order to resolve your immediate conflicts. You have to let go of old behavior in order to move forward to something new. Once you give up a little something of yourself, you will find that things can then improve on their own.
The Fool is controlled by his irrational impulses, and is forever willing to risk it all as he steps off into the unknown. Only by taking a fresh new path can you expand your personal horizons and discover new understanding. The Fool card signifies the beginning of a new journey that you may not even realize you need to be on. Though you can not see where you are going, you should strike out with confidence. No matter what you find, you will discover freedom and independence in having taken the trip. So go ahead and step off the cliff, adventure awaits.
